About Dóttir Webdesign

My name is Kristin Gudmundsdottir and I’m a web designer and the owner of Dóttir Webdesign. The word Dóttir means “daughter”. It means that I am my fathers daughter, my fathers name is Gudmundur and therefore I am the daughter of Gudmundur = Gudmundsdottir (or Gudmundsdaughter).

I made my first website 20 years ago, it was called “SuperCat” ..don’t ask. Few years, or many, passed until I decided to make a living by working as a web designer. I for sure do not regret that decision. Web design and web development are one of the things I absolutely love to do.

Projects that come my way are both big and small, simple and complicated. I really like projects that push me out of my comfort zone. I believe, that it makes me a better human and a better web designer.

I work from the north west side of Iceland, but that hasn’t stopped me in serving clients from all over the world.

When I’m not designing or building a website, making a logo or teaching my clients how to manage their website I can be found…

  • On my sofa knitting, at my computer blogging about knitting, surfing other knitters blogs or packing orders from my Etsy shop.
  • In my garden, which is on my balcony.. where I take container gardening to the next level. Strawberries anyone?
  • Biking about the town.

  • In my dyeing studio, where I hand-dye yarn.

  • Photographing my surroundings and blogging about my daily life.. in Icelandic.

Yes there is more!

Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about me:

  • I’m a serial mom. My kids are 16, 15, 11 and 4 (2017)

  • I’m an exceptionally talented cleaning lady
  • I have always felt that guys with long (unruly) hair, beard and tattoos are extremely cool
  • I’m a flutist, I even play in a band!
  • I can’t resist buying yarn when I see it and I will go crazy in the office supply store.
It is really feels good to work with Kristin. She has a warm presence, very energetic and hard-working. She is a good designer and human being. Kristin is a finisher and really follows through. Problems don’t exist in her vocabulary and another major asset she has is that she finishes on time and on budget, which is priceless. If you were to ask me if I would recommend Kristin for your next project, my answer is: “for sure!”

It has proven to be extremely effective to work with Kristin. She is fair, organized, skillful and thinks in solutions. What matters the most is that she really takes care of her customers, and makes sure they get the appropriate information so that they can successfully continue building their website and that the customer is 100% satisfied with the outcome. We can absolutely recommend Kristin as a web-designer.

I recommend Kristin 100%! My problems were solved in an unbelievably short time. She is flexible and very realistic with the price. Apart from having solved my problems quickly, I also got very good advice and how I could optimise my webshop even more.

Look.. I did my best. I’m just not one of those people who had it all figured out whilst still in the womb. I’m multipassionate (yes, it’s a word) and because I never realized it until few years ago, I’ve used a good portion of my life trying to figure out where I would fit in, so here goes:

2011 – 2012 Yoga Shala Reykjavík [Iceland]

Yoga teacher

I totally fell into the yoga world. I was practicing at this studio in Iceland and before I knew it I had signed up for becoming a yoga teacher, had already begun teaching there before I finished the education and of course I redesigned their website.

1996 – 2006 Several schools [Iceland]

I really did do my best:

I made an honest attempt to become a psychologist, social worker, hairdresser, flower decorator, the one who puts fake nails on people and a masseuse, all while having 3 of my kids and running my own restaurant and guesthouse. What I learned from “spending” my time on all and nothing is:

Organize, organize, organize. Also prioritization and differentiation between what is important and what is urgent

Color and color theory. Has worked wonders when I have to make any color combinations.

Freehand drawing.

Hairdresser.. wellhhh.. I have been able to perform a basic haircut on my kids, at least while they do not know that they have a bad haircut.
